I was unhappy with the way the VST plugin thumbnails look in Cubase. It seems to use a very rudimentary resampling/scaling technique which gives the thumbnails a very aliased look.
So, I use IrfanView's batch conversion utility to resize and resample the thumbnails. Here's a sample of the result and my IrfanView settings if anyone is interested.
