I've been using the Granite https://www.newsonicarts.com/html/granite.php granular synth for years now. Over the past week or so, I have been investigating what else is out there. But, it seems like that most of them are triggered by a MIDI note to get a sound.
When you start Granite, it defaults to a "free running" mode (Gate disabled) where the playhead continuously moves and generates sound. There's a "speed" parameter that lets you adjust how fast it scrubs trough the audio file, and which direction. These are the two features I'm looking for.
Unless I'm missing something, I couldn't find demos of other granular synths that showed this functionality. Well, Granulator II can do it with "hold" enabled, but it's a bit underwhelming as plugin, imo. Relative to Granite that is. Novum and Quadrant look really promising, but I didn't see this feature on them.
I realize I could put one long midi note in. But, I'd have to constantly move the start point depending on where I'm at on the timeline. Plus, if I'm looping a section, it would keep restarting. I'd like something that keeps moving the whole time. Or at least has the option to.
Any ideas? Thanks!
